Lunch break today in Saint Paul neighbourhood. In the area, the majority of eateries are restaurants chains… not original.

Even if De Gustibus is a chain (in London you can find 2 other restaurants of the brand), this one catches our attention. A simple decor and breads literally calling us!

De Gustibus creators are bakers who won awards for their breads. In addition to supplying prestigious hotels and restaurants around town, they opened their own deli.

Here the concept is simple. You can choose everything: bread, sauce, meat, cheese, vegetables… Pimp your sandwich as you wish. There’s a wide variety.

If I may give you an advice : try to get there a bit before lunch time to have the time to choose. At noon, this place gets crowded with white collars coming down from the City. They don’t have time to wait, and you’ll be feeling it! Without knowing it, we were there just before rush hour!!

A little flashback on British habits: traditionally, lunch is a sandwich, chips and a fruit. But generally the bread is soft, without crust.

De Gustibus offers a wide range of breads. You’ll be choosing between special breads from different countries, all mouth-watering: San Francisco Sour Dough, ciabatta, bagel, honey and lavender bread, rye bread, cereal bread, potato bread, baguette, fougasse, olive bread… The choice will make your head spin, and regular white bread will definitely look dull after this experience!

De Gustibus is all about sandwiches, but if you’re not in the mood, you can also order salads, pasta, couscous, croques-messieurs, soups… There’s something for everyone!

Most people buy their sandwich to go. There are a few tables to eat in the deli. But the place is pretty loud, and you’ll have a hard time hearing anyone. But if you still feel like it, you must tell the cashier, an additional fee (£1) will be added to your bill. Everything has a price in London!!!
